Measureless to Man by Ivan R. WALKTHROUGH Measureless to Man by Ivan R. -----------Part I: ON THE PLANE----------- There's something jabbing into you. It's probably a good idea to take it and see what it is >TAKE POINTY Oh, it's a mirror. Let's take a look at ourselves >EXAMINE MIRROR Here we discover that we're wearing makeup, and it's messed up somehow. We can't fix it in view of other people, though. Oh, and before we go, it will make things easier for us in the future if we pick up our bag and take it with us. >TAKE BAG Let's >LOOK again. This reveals that there's a bathroom at the end of the plane. We could get some privacy there. >GET UP Oh, the seatbelt is buckled. >UNBUCKLE SEATBELT (the PC resists this a little, but firmly repeating the command is all we need to persuade him) >UNBUCKLE SEATBELT >GET UP >ENTER BATHROOM Okay, now we're in the bathroom. Let's see what the issue is with that makeup. >EXAMINE MAKEUP Now let's try fixing it. >FIX MAKEUP The text says that we should just rip it off, so we may as well do that. >RIP OFF MAKEUP Yikes! We're going to need something to cover this before we go back into the cabin. The baseball cap is one option, but we have something better. >OPEN BAG >TAKE FEZ >EXAMINE FEZ >WEAR FEZ Oh, but there's something else in the bag - let's check that out. >TAKE BOOK (This triggers the beginning of the next scene, a flashback.) -----------Part II: IN THE PAST----------- Hmm. >INVENTORY >X KEY Okay, so we know what we're doing. We want to deliver this key. >GO NORTH No luck. The northern entrance is a dead end; there's no way to move the rocks. We must progress southwards. >GO SOUTH There's nothing in particular that we need to do in most of these locations. >GO SOUTH >GO SOUTH >GO SOUTH Ah, there's the house. >GO EAST We want to bring this key to our grandfather, so let's focus on that right now (as tempting as the soup must be). It sounds like he's probably in the study. >GO SOUTHEAST Oh, wonderful, he is. >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT GRANDFATHER Sounds like he isn't interested in a chat. At least not for now; he won't be cooperative until he's got his hands on that key he sent us for. >GIVE KEY TO GRANDFATHER Huh, apparently the book's pages are permeable, somehow. That seems important. >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK He's going to have quite a bit to say on this topic. >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK Okay - so who was Pierre? >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT PIERRE Gifts, eh? >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT GIFTS Let's try asking about the book again. >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK Clearly, we need to ask again. >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK >ASK GRANDFATHER ABOUT BOOK It seems like he wants us to take the book. >TAKE BOOK ...and that ends the flashback. -----------Part III: SURVIVING A CRASH----------- We're back in the plane bathroom, and we just picked up that mysterious book. Let's check it out. >EXAMINE BOOK It sure seems like we want to open it. >OPEN CLASP Huh. >WAIT Yikes!! We're going to need to figure out how to get out of this situation. Remember what our grandfather said about the book? That it's "a portal to another world, in the most literal sense"? And the way he was able to drop that key through the pages? >ENTER BOOK Oh, wow, we're somewhere else entirely. Let's... wait out the crash. >WAIT The noise stopped. But what's that bronze-ish thing? >GO NORTHWEST >GO NORTHWEST >GO NORTHWEST >GO UP >GO NORTHWEST >GO UP >GO NORTHWEST >GO UP >GO NORTHWEST >GO UP >GO NORTHWEST >TAKE KEY Weird. Well, it's pretty clear what we want to do... >PUT KEY IN KEYHOLE This could come in handy if we need to go somewhere where it would be hard to breathe. >LOOK >GO SOUTHEAST >GO SOUTHEAST >GO SOUTHEAST >GO DOWN >GO SOUTHEAST >GO DOWN >GO SOUTHEAST >GO DOWN >GO SOUTHEAST >GO DOWN >GO SOUTHEAST Time to go back to the real world! >ENTER BOOK Where are we, again? >LOOK Right, back in the airplane bathroom. >TAKE BOOK Let's go out and explore. >GO OUT >ENTER EXIT -----------Part IV: OUTSIDE/GETTING UNDERWATER----------- ******* There's a lot to explore in this section of the game; you can get in the life raft and travel around in the water in any direction. For the purposes of this walkthrough, we're going to focus on what's needed to "win" the game, but I'd encourage you to explore anywhere you want to, over or under the water, from here on out. ******* We don't have to breathe anymore, so we can dive underwater here if we want. >ENTER WATER The book... wants us to go downward? >GO DOWN Further... >GO DOWN Well, that doesn't work. It's too dark down there. We need a source of light. ******* If you spend enough time swimming around, or paddling around in the raft, in addition to finding some exciting optional content, you'll get a number of gradual nudges towards the next step. This part of the game is very open-ended, so we're going to skip that part here. But again - for the best experience, spend some time exploring. ******* We have to go back into the void. >OPEN BOOK >ENTER BOOK Oh no! A giant snake! We could try to get away from this thing by moving around in the void, but we won't be able to outrun it permanently. There's only really one thing to do: go back through the book. >ENTER BOOK >EXAMINE SNAKE >EXAMINE HEAD We'll have to travel a little bit to get close enough to the serpent's head to look at it; it certainly seems compelling. The position of the head relative to us is sensitively dependent on the circumstances under which we entered and exited the book, but we can find out with a simple >LOOK command; it is mentioned in the room description. In our case, it is northwest. >TAKE BOOK >GO NORTHWEST >EXAMINE HEAD It seems like we want to touch its eyes. Guided by fate as we are... >TOUCH EYES ...now we'll be able to see in the deep water. -------Part V: DEEP UNDERWATER, AND THE END------- Okay, now that we have a source of light, we'll be able to go down to the deep areas that were too dark to travel in before. >GO DOWN Let's investigate that rock formation. >GO SOUTH >GO SOUTH >EXAMINE ROCK Huh. I wonder what that is? >EXAMINE OPENING There's a sort of lateral-thinking trick to getting through this opening. How big did we say it was? >ENTER OPENING Far too small for us. >OPEN BOOK >ENTER BOOK >WAIT Hmm. Something on the other side made the book close, somehow. Maybe... >OPEN BOOK >ENTER BOOK Now we are in a tunnel. This is the final stage of the game. >GO NORTH >GO NORTH After we've reached the enormous door, the move that ends the game is pretty clearly telegraphed: >GO NORTH
