The Bible Retold: The Bread and the Fishes By Celestianpower and Justin Morgan. NOTE: This walkthrough takes you through the bare minimum you need to do to complete the game. I recommend talking to people multiple times and examining everything. If something occurs to you: do it. You never know - we might have coded for it. There are many easter eggs to be found! NOTE 2: This walkthrough just details one way to go through the game. You can actually do the puzzles in any order. The game very loosely follows the story of "The Feeding of the Five Thousand", found in the Gospels of the Bible. The player character, as Jesus Christ, must feed a ravenous crowd of five thousand people. You start on a large field atop a hill, where you first meet the crowd. Read the tablet (which emphasises your general mission). Going northwest leads you to the shore of the Sea of Galilee, where you meet a leper, who needs your healing. He'll get hit on the head by a tablet and knocked out, but never mind - he'll be OK. On reading the tablet, you discover a coin: a present from your Father. > read tablet > nw > heal leper > read tablet > take coin If you go back southeast, then east to the Bethsaida town centre, you'll see the market to the south. Here's where you can spend that coin. Talk to Jacob, and he'll tell you about the three items he has for sale: a melon, a bag of flour and some olives. Since your aim is to feed the crowd with bread and fishes, flour would be a good thing to buy. From the riverbank: > se > e > s > talk to Jacob > buy flour In the town, you will have noticed the synagogue to the northeast. Enter there and you'll find a man with a nettle sting, who, like the leper, needs healing. Of course, it's not that simple. As it's an earthly ailment, it requires and earthly cure. This means a plant. You saw various plants in the field, so this would be the place to look. By examining them, you'll see the dock is the one you want. Take some, and give it to the stung man. When you do, he'll give you a pail, but will get knocked out by a tablet in the process. Oh well, he'll survive too. At this point, note the hint about praying for things you need. It will come in handy. From the market: > n > ne > heal man > sw > w > take dock > e > ne > give dock to man > read tablet You now have a pail for some water: you can make a dough! Fill the pail with the water from the river (it did say it was drinkable) and mix it with the flour. From the synagogue: > sw > w > nw > fill pail > mix flour with water At the riverbank, you will have noticed you can continue northwest up the shore. Doing so will take you to see Peter in his boat. Wait for him to close in on the shore, then talking to him tells you that you can't depart to the fishing ground until the winds are favourable. For this, remember the hint in the tablet at the synagogue: pray for things you need. The riverbank is too noisy, so you'll need to pray for the wind at the synagogue. From the riverbank: > nw > wait > wait > wait > wait > talk to peter > se > se > e > ne > pray for wind Now you can finally set sail! Go back to the boat and talk to Peter to get the boat moving. In a few turns, you'll reach the fishing ground. Copy what Peter did, and you should catch two fish. He'll then congratulate you, move the boat to the Northern shore and tell you that you must go and see a deaf and mute man at 7:31 of the Village of Mark, which is north from the bank. From the synagogue: > sw > w > nw > nw > enter boat > talk to peter > talk to peter > wait > wait > wait > wait > wait > take net > throw net into lake > haul net > take all from net > n The village of Mark has eight streets, identifiable by the numbers written on the sides of the buildings at each one. You access the four main ones from outside the village. Explore the area for a while, noting that 'go to end' (or just 'end') will take you to the end of a street, and 'go back', 'go to intersection' or just 'int' will take you to the start of the street (but only when you're on foot). After hearing some of the sooth-sayers, you should realise that the village is a bricks-and-mortar version of the Gospel of Mark, with each door representing one of its verses. One side of the street represents an odd-numbered chapter; the other side represents the consecutive, even-numbered chapter. To include all sixteen chapters, there is a secondary route accessible from the beginning of each of the four primary routes. Here's a breakdown: Going north-west. Left: chapter 1. Right: chapter 2. Parallel route: north. Left: chapter 3. Right: chapter 4. Going north. Left: chapter 5. Right: chapter 6. Parallel route: north-east. Left: chapter 7. Right: chapter 8. Going north-east. Left: chapter 9. Right: chapter 10. Parallel route: east. Left: chapter 11. Right: chapter 12. Going east. Left: chapter 13. Right: chapter 14. Parallel route: south-east. Left: chapter 15. Right: chapter 16. You should have heard that there is a deaf and mute man at house 7 : 31, which, as is the convention for Bible references, means verse 31 of chapter 7. So take the northern route, and then go north-east to access the parallel street. Go to the end of the street and then go south until you reach verse 31. Because 7 is an odd number, the man's house will be on the left-hand side. Knock on the door and he'll appear. From outside the village, that is: > n > ne > end > s > s > s > s > s > s > s > knock on left door Now, the fact that he lives at house 7 : 31 is not random. Check the *real* Gospel of Mark and see what you find at that Bible reference. Yes: Jesus heals a deaf-mute man at that point in the Bible. Read the story to find out how to heal him. You'll discover that Jesus put his fingers in the man's ears, then spit before touching the man's tongue. Finally he said the word 'ephphatha', and the man was cured. > put fingers in ears > spit > touch tongue > say ephphatha Mark has arrived on his chariot, and the man has unfortunately been knocked out by a falling tablet. Read the tablet first. God tells you to find another woman, who needs healing. Mark tells you she lives at house 5 : 25. Because of the valuable chest in Mark's chariot, you can't leave it and go off on foot, so you must ride the chariot. > read tablet > enter chariot Having no experience in charioteering, you naturally find it difficult to control the horses, who insist on bursting forward for a little bit and then coming to a sudden halt. Notice the consistency of their bursts: they always cover a distance of 11 houses before stopping. Now, you need to reach verse 25 of chapter 5, but you'll notice that the horses conveniently miss it out. However, you will also notice that by going to the end of the street, the horses will screech to a halt, whether they have covered 11 doors or not. Get outside the village. > s > s > s Go north-west, and then to go to the end of the street (you'll see 45 on the door). Go back south-east until you're out of the village again. Since the horses will now stop at door number 1 (the intersections), you can go up one of the parallel paths. Go east, then south-east to access the parallel street. Go to the end (to number 47), then repeatedly go back west until you're out of the village. Finally, go north three times, and you will arrive at number 25. The commands, then: > nw > end > se > se > se > se > se > e > se > end > w > w > w > w > w > n > n > n Disembark and knock on the left-hand door. Heal the woman, then get back onto the chariot. You'll drop the gift automatically. > exit chariot > knock on left-hand door > heal woman > enter chariot If you move in the chariot now, you will notice a change: the extra weight from the sheep is dragging down the chariot, and the horses will only cover 6 houses at a time, instead of 11! Though you can now walk on water (as promised), you still can't leave the chariot alone, so you're going to have to take it back to Mark. Return to the house of the former deaf-mute. > s > s > s > s > ne > n > n > n > n > n You'll notice Mark isn't around, so knock on the door. They've been having a party without you! Thankfully, Mark and Yonah are going to bring the chest inside, which frees you from your burden. Go into the house. > get out > knock on left door > w Aha! An oven! First light the oven with one of the oil lamps. Then put the dough onto the tray and Yonah will advise on you which oven shelf to use. Separate the dough into five bits (though you could do this after baking with the knife, if you want). > take oil lamp > light oven with lamp > put dough on tray > separate dough > take tray > put tray on bottom shelf Wait a few turns, examining the oven to check the status of the bread. You could also drink some of your wine. After eight turns, it should be done. Take your bread and run! (But leave behind the baking tray.) > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > take tray > get all loaves > put tray on counter > e > int > sw > s > s Remember to take your sheep, before walking on the water! > take sheep > s You should now be on the lake, walking on the water! Go south repeatedly until you emerge on the other shore... > s > s > s > s > s Now it's finally time to feed the five thousand! > drop sheep > se > se > say grace > feed crowd Your disciples are asking you the burning question: what next? Look at the Bible story itself (or its Wikipedia entry - probably the next best thing), and you'll see how the disciples collected the scraps (the leftovers) and filled twelves baskets of them. So that's what's next: > collect leftovers But now, so awed at your powers, the crowd has gone wild. You'd better run... > nw > nw > enter boat Congratulations. You fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fishes alone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Full list of commands: > read tablet > nw > talk to leper > heal leper > read tablet > take coin > se > e > s > talk to Jacob > buy flour > n > ne > heal man > sw > w > take dock > e > ne > give dock to man > read tablet > sw > w > nw > fill pail > mix flour with water > nw > wait > wait > wait > wait > talk to peter > se > se > e > ne > pray for wind > sw > w > nw > nw > enter boat > talk to peter > talk to peter > wait > wait > wait > wait > wait > take net > throw net into lake > haul net in > take all from net > n > n > ne > end > s > s > s > s > s > s > s > knock on left door > put fingers in ears > spit > touch tongue > say ephphatha > read tablet > enter chariot > s > s > s > nw > end > se > se > se > se > se > e > se > end > w > w > w > w > w > n > n > n > exit chariot > knock on lefthand door > heal woman > enter chariot > s > s > s > s > ne > n > n > n > n > n > get out > knock on left door > w > take oil lamp > light oven with lamp > put dough on tray > separate dough > take tray > put tray on bottom shelf > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > wait > x oven > take tray > get all loaves > put tray on counter > e > int > sw > s > s > take sheep > s > s > s > s > s > s > drop sheep > se > se > say grace > feed crowd > collect leftovers > nw > nw > enter boat
