This game has three purposes: * As a technology demonstration: it contains some features that should be of interest to the IF community, including a menu system and a solution to the 'guess the verb' problem. * To make some (hopefully) thought-provoking, philosophical points. * And to tell a story. In retrospect I think it may have been a bad idea (that is, too ambitious) to combine them all in a single IFComp entry. If you aren't genuinely bothered by story or philosophy, then do use the walkthrough feature while you look at the other features; if you aren't bothered by fancy features, then just play it like any other IF game; however, if you read some or all of the in-game help system (the 'm' command) then you should be able to appreciate all three things at the same time. The technological 'features' depend on Glulx. My testing has revealed the following compatibility results: * Windows/Linux: Git seems to be the best choice (you can get it as part of Gargoyle at http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/). You select menu items by single-clicking. WinGlulxe is also fine. Glulxex works too, but doesn't look as nice. * Mac OS X: Total success with Spatterlight (http://ccxvii.net/spatterlight/); Zoom works with it too, but the menu window seems to lose focus regularly if you control it with the keyboard (and when you close the menu system you may find you get several 'more' prompts before you're back in the game). Spatterlight requires that you double-click menu items; Zoom only needs a single click (this is important). It even works in the command line Glulxe, although the menu system is a little slow and you get Glk errors at the bottom of the screen. (I don't think they matter, but if you know otherwise, please contact me!) * I did test the game on Zag, but you'll find it produces an error about not being able to open the file, even though it already has (it prints the opening stuff). It seems to be incompatible with any Glk-related ORLibrary extensions. E-mail: carmaferris@googlemail.com
