Spoilers for FAIR NOTE: This document is not an explicit walk-through, but will detail how to get all the points and reveal hidden secrets which may be more enjoyable to find on your own. You may wish to only read this after you have completed exploring to your satisfaction. The full achieveable point total is 11201. Points are equivalent to the money you make, so selling a book for $20 gains 20 points. 200 points - Selling Books You must sell all 10 books for the full price of $20 apiece. This means not selling any for $10 when asked. If you are holding at least two theater tickets that Principal McMaitlend gave you, you will be given the choice to include them in the sale to keep the book price at $20. Selling books takes time, which you don't have a lot of. Not too long after 7:00 PM the principal will force you to judge the science fair. Extra Time - The Time Machine If you go behind the school (from the Hallway where you begin, move SOUTH three times) you will find some losing Science Fair exhibits near the dumpster. If you examine these exhibits a few times, you will find a time machine. The time machine doesn't seem to work on batteries, nor will it work if you switch it on. If you examine it a couple of times you will notice the word XYZZY on it. This is a classic adventure-game magic word and typing it during the fair will allow you to reset the clock to 6:00 PM. This can be repeated indefinitely for as long a it takes for you to sell your books and explore the Fair to your heart's content. Also note that every time you reset the clock, the Principal will repeat his opening speech and give you two more theater tickets which you can use to get $20 instead of $10 if a reader wants a discount. Judging - Exhibit Names Unless you examine the exhibits or participants, or the numbered balloons remain uncut by the scissor girls, or you have really good spatial understanding of the gym and how the exhibits are laid out, you won't know what you are choosing during the judging. If you examine the exhibits, you will also be able to provide some observational commentary as the participants make their way to the stage. 1,000 points - Lorraine Vanden-Botten Stephanie's mom will order fifty books from you and write you a check for a total of $1000. This is contingent on Stephanie's Global-Warming exhibit winning (or at least not losing) the Fair. Stephanie's mom will be at her exhibit, which is SOUTH, WEST, WEST, WEST from the starting location. Talk to her, and she will go outside to smoke, then meet her by going outside the school (EAST, EAST, EAST, NORTH, NORTH) and talking to her again and make choices to accept her offer. When you judge the Fair, you must not make any choice that places Stephanie 5th-2nd, or the check will be worthless and you will lose the points. 10,000 points - Senator Botten Senator Botten will arrive at the Fair for a photo-op on the stage between 6:30 and 6:40 PM. There will be a notification that you hear a helicopter when he arrives. If you navigate to the stage (SOUTH, SOUTH, WEST from the starting location) and participate in the photo-op, he will also write you a check to ensure Stephanie wins. You should examine the Senator's check to verify the amount and score the points. Once again, these points will un-score if you place Stephanie's exhibit 5th-2nd during the judging. Both the Senator and his Lorraine's scenes can be repeated should you miss them, or decide in a fit of conscience to destroy either check and then reset the clock. If you leave either check somewhere, the little girls with the scissors will steal it. 1 point - Everybody Wins If you repeat the judging five times, (either by playing the game completely through, or by using XYZZY _after_ the awards presentation to reset yourself to the choice of winning exhibit!) and have chosen every exhibit to win at least once, you can replay the judging again and be offered a new choice to make it a five-way tie among all the finalists. This gains you the last lousy point. If you've sold all your books and accepted both bribe checks, (and not made a choice for Stephanie to place lower than 1st) you will win with the full score. ADDENDUM - The time machine in the game is a hint. You don't need to be physically holding it to use the magic word, and you could theoretically XYZZY on the first turn of the game if you wanted to. Keeping the time machine in your inventory all the way through the end isn't necessary...
